First cooperation agreement signed between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and theDOCK maritime fund and innovation center
On July 31 2019, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (tkMS) and theDOCK, maritime-tech fund and innovation hub focusing on ports, shipping and maritime logistics sector, signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement was signed during tkMS’ CEO, Dr Rolf Wirtz, visit to Haifa in the presence of Hovav Ref, a Senior Director Business development at the Industrial Cooperation Authority at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Hannan Carmeli, Nir Gartzman and Noa Schuman – theDOCK founders, and guests from the maritime industry.
The agreement includes tkMS investment in the activities of theDOCK, which is considered as the leading innovation hub for new technologies in the fields of ports, shipping and maritime logistics. The partnership will promote Israel as a focal point for maritime innovation. theDOCK will act as tkMS innovation arm in Israel and scout for start-ups that develop technologies that fit its business strategy and challenges. tkMS will take part in events and activities that will connect maritime Multi-National Corporations and talented entrepreneurs.
The agreement represents yet another step in thyssenkrupp’s effort to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Israeli economy, following an order of more than 100 Million Shekels from the Israeli company Aqwise, cooperation agreements with other Israeli companies and additional projects.
Dr. Rolf Wirtz, tkMS CEO stated at the signing ceremony: “Investing in Israeli innovation is essential part of our business strategy as part of our long lasting cooperation with Israel. There is no doubt that Haifa, as a port city and home of the Israeli Navy, has a huge maritime innovation potential and we are convinced that our investment will support this cause. We chose to invest specifically in Haifa through theDOCK since we believe that such investment is beneficial to all parties; it will strengthen Haifa economically and technology wise, support the important activities of theDOCK and allow tkMS to offer innovative solutions to challenges in the maritime industry.”
